MOUNT BARKER & THE GREAT SOUTHERN
The Great Southern Wine Region, covering Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and the Porongurups, produces around 37% of Western Australia’s wine grapes, making it one of the country’s largest regions. Since the first cellar door opened in Mount Barker in 1975, the area has become renowned for cool climate wines, particularly Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
Mount Barker, in particular, is an ideal growing area. The cool nights and mineral soils give rise to the fresh style of Riesling, whilst the Shiraz often denotes a distinctive earthiness, with peppery, spiced cherry undertones.

FOX RIVER VINEYARD
Nestled in Mount Barker, Fox River Winery spans 45 acres of Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling vines. The picturesque property, with its rolling landscape, winter lake and natural creek, is home to the striking yellow cellar door, a well known landmark on South Western Highway.
Established over 40 years ago, the vineyard began as Chateau Barker in the early 1970s under Donald and Margaret Cooper, among the first vineyards in the Great Southern region. Their wines achieved national acclaim, helping shape the area’s winemaking reputation.
After passing through several owners, including Goundrey Wines and Blue Wren Estate, the property is now owned by Milne AgriGroup. Under Brett Blanchett’s guidance, the vines have been rejuvenated to produce elegant, expressive wines that celebrate Mount Barker’s cool-climate character
